Giving your bathroom a facelift and staying within a limited budget is not only possible, it is simple if you plan carefully, are willing to shop around and have some time to invest in doing the some of the work on your own. As a matter of fact, you can have the bathroom of your dreams for a fraction of what you think it is going to cost with these simple tricks.

Paint it Up

One of the first things you will want to invest in for your bathroom remodeling project is some fabulous paint because a fresh coat will breathe life into any room instantly. Because bathrooms are high moisture and trafficked areas, you can’t choose just any paint.

You will first want to purchase a primer as these are designed to seal any moisture and keep it separated from the drywall. On top of that you will want to invest in some mildew resistant paint especially if your bathroom is not ventilated well. These types of paint are sold specifically for bathrooms and come in either satin or semi-gloss finishes.

For rooms that habitually collect mildew it is best to choose a semi-gloss as they are easier to clean and won’t be affected by harsh bathroom cleaners. If however, your bathroom isn’t prone to high moisture you can select a satin finish which also holds up well and can be cleaned with a little elbow grease.

Enlighten the Area

Another money friendly idea that livens up rooms is to swap out your current lighting fixtures. For bathrooms pick overhead lights that swivel away from the walls as these will provide better lighting than ones that are close to the walls.

There are some fabulous choices and many of them start at only $20 or a little more. The one you choose should have a longer neck and should be placed over your cabinet or directly above the vanity area. Any serious wiring that needs to be done though needs to be left to a tradie, both for your own safety and the function of the space.

Visually Enlarge a Room

Every bathroom remodeling project should include a new mirror. You can purchase any type from a home building store for under $50 usually or get more creative and design your own.

How? Buy a cheap piece of plain mirror glass in the style you like and then purchase a wood or metal frame and attach it yourself. You can find these for a few dollars and they really add character.

Or visit a local crafting store and choose some trendy tiles to outline the mirror in for a modern look that is unique and expensive looking. Use tile adhesive to outline the mirror or fill in the space between the glass and frame.

Bathroom Crown Molding

If luxury or elegance is the look you are after, adding crown molding to this room will do the trick and it is super affordable. Most brands can be purchased for about $13.00 per 8 sq. ft and since bathrooms are usually one of the smallest rooms in the house, it won’t take much to do the entire length of it.

Shop around for crowns coated in urethane paint as they are very lightweight and simple to install on your own, and they won’t expand with the constant changes in temperatures nor bend in high moisture areas. For less than $100 you can make your new bathroom decor look expensive without breaking the bank.
